They are easily recognized by the colorful flowers that bloom up and down their long stems.
Identifying the plant by genera is easier than identifying it by species. Well over a dozen different larkspur species call the Pacific Northwest home.
Larkspurs are also members of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae), and like buttercups, they are toxic to humans and wildlife.
