Mountain Weasel

picture of a mountain weasel

The Mountain Weasel (Mustela altaica), a fairly small Mustela species, inhabits high elevation areas of Russia and Asia.

Six different subspecies have been identified within its large range, and the color of the fur changes depending on the subspecies and season. Generally summer coats are darker than winter coats.

The picture highlights the fact that the physical appearance of mustela species are similar world wide.
