Kit Fox

The Kit Fox (Vulpes macrotis) is a native fox of Western desert an d arid lands from Oregon to Northern Mexico.

While the population is generally considered stable, one subspecies, the San Joaquin Kit Fox (V. m. mutica) is classified as endangered under the terms of the Endangered Species Act.

Like the Fennec Fox of North Africa, the Kit Fox is a small fox with big ears, which presumably evolved to help the fox regulate its body temperature.

Unlike other fox species, Kit Foxes are not altogether wary around human populations. That fact, coupled with their propensity for open space habitat makes it sometimes easy to snap of picture of them at play.
