Crab-eating Fox

The fox species of South American occupy different geographical niches in a manner similar to their North American counterparts.

The Crab-eating Fox (Cerdocyon thous) is the primary fox species of the eastern half of South America.

It's very adaptable, staking open territory whereever food sources are available. Contrary to the name, they are opportunistic feeders, hunting any small mammals, birds, reptiles or fish in their territory.
