Aoudad

picture of an Aoudad

Aoudad (Ammotragus lervia), also called the Barbary Sheep, are native animals of the mountain areas of North Africa.

Like all ungulates, they are herbivores that feed on grasses and leaves. Both males and females grow curved horns.

They have been introduced in several different desert/mountain areas around the world, including Texas and New Mexico. They now roam free and are hunted as big game.
