Growing Carrots

Soil Conditions: Carrots are hardy root vegetables that grow on most healthy loam and sandy soils (pH level between 6.0 and 7.0) during the spring and fall. Picture an average length carrot and remember that the soil should be prepared to a depth that accomodates average carrot length.
Planting Tips: Carrots can be sown by seed directly in the garden.
Spacing: Once the young shoots develop, thin the plants to allow for at least a two inch circumference around each plant.
Plant Care: Keeping the garden area weed free with about one inch of water per week usually keeps growing carrots happy.
Harvesting Tips: From seed to salad, carrots can be harvested in about two months time. The exact amount of time depends on the variety planted.
