LED Holiday Lights Conserve Energy

picture of led holiday lightsCelebrate the year end holiday season, and conserve energy by switching to LED holiday lights.

LED stands for light-emitting diode, and while the technology has been known for over forty years, improvements have allowed its expansion into a variety of commercial lighting markets.

Practically speaking, LED lights are the small lights connected to power switches on many electronic devices, or along walkways as solar lights.

What they lack in luminosity, they more than make up for in energy efficiency. LEDs are the most energy efficient lights on the commercial market, using eighty per cent less electricity than the traditional incandescent light bulb.

They burn cool, making them safe to run indoors. They can operate on solar power, making it possible to create an electricity free outdoor holiday display.

LEDs cost about three times the price of traditional incandescent holiday lights. However, the initial costs are easily recouped through energy savings. Properly stored holiday lights can last for decades.

Also, many local sources offer coupons and/or rebates for recycling your old incandescent holiday lights and replacing them with the LED holiday lights.
